Where can I find the modest clothing Orthodox Jewish women wear?
Hi. I’m considering converting to Orthodox Judaism and I understand that, in a nutshell, I must keep my chest, elbows, and knees covered as well as no flashy colors. I was wondering if there were any good places to find this modest clothing, like stores, websites, etc. Thanks.
You can find modest clothes anywhere you can find "normal" clothes. Just because you have to cover up doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice your personal style.

Where do you live? In certain cities there are sometimes orthodox districts that have Jewish stores selling only modest clothing, for example Borough Park and Flatbush in Brooklyn, New York or Stamford Hill in London. Otherwise you just have to really search out stores and cast your eye on what is modest and only then decide on what you like – but it can definitely get frustrating sometimes! In the summer there are often lots of skirts, and in the winter the covered tops and t-shirts. You’ll get used to it eventually.
I live in England and I know there are certain stores that generally have more modest lines and then there are stores to just keep away from coz I will never find anything there! It’s a shame, coz about 50 years ago, women would wear the most elegant and modest clothing in every society!
Good luck!!!

Flashy colors are fine among many fully observant ("Orthodox") Jewish communities.
The best place to buy modest clothing is Israel – where there’s a demand for something you will find a supply for it.
Sorry if that is not entirely helpful… you may want to just go to your shul and ask someone – it all depends on how relaxed a person you are, some people find asking such a thing very awkward.
btw, I thought that you might appreciate the following link:

It has resources that you will likely find interesting, and that can help you with converting. The main objective of the website is to help ppl learn Hebrew.
You might just have to wait until you go to Israel on a trip, and then buy clothing there.

Can get neat stuff at Walmart and Target in US stores. Lots of maxi skirts and dresses, mock turtlenecks, sweaters, and if modern Orthodox, many wear tunics over jeans (not tight, tight). Most stay away from day-glow orange and reds (red dresses = very sexy, I still have one I kept since I was 18, can’t seem to throw it out and I will never be a 6 again!).
No problem with a couple of inches below knee and 3/4 length sleeves, and up to collarbone. My sister is a Noahite, didn’t convert to Judaism, but studies and learns with them as a righteous gentile, and dresses like religious Jewish women and some Muslims but not the hijab.
Many fundamental Christians dress modestly too, some denominations require sleeves to the wrist. So, you can go on many sites online for clothes, even Muslim women sites have great skirts, but their dressy stuff they wear in private with other women are too revealing.
If you are considering converting, note you will be refused many times. Conversion is not required to be righteous, like my sister, is a righteous gentile or God-Fearer, see 1stCovenant.org. See Chabad.org on why not to convert and only if you can identify with the Godly Jewish soul and each Jew, by feeling the pull, the goosebumps when another Jew is flashed all over the pages of the media, and really willing to live a religious life where everything is dedicated to God and the world watches you like a hawk, then it is a "blessing", truly wonderful community for women, where women are spiritually higher, do not have to marry, and intelligence should not be wasted, etc. But it is a total, mind, body and soul commitment, and you end up with a huge community as family. Of course there will be clashes, Jews from all customs, colors, races, and countries, end up in huge cities and you might not get along with German Jews, but like the Dutch Jews, or hang with the Iraqi Jews or Mexican or Brazilian Jews. There are even Japanese Jews and Native Americans too. So, it is a matter of settling in.
If you can remain a righteous gentile, that is great option and will get you a ticket to learn the Torah as it will help you stay righteous by the Noah Covenant. Good luck with your choice which ever you decide.

Jewocity.com has a lot of places in their Jewish business directory – woman’s clothing section that sell only modest clothing.
That is the website I usually use to find Jewish stores especially in the NYC area.
