Comments on: What would an Orthodox Jew do if a Messianic Jew visited their Synagogue?

What would a Christian (any denomination, take your pick) do if a devil-worshiping Christian visited their church? Would they be welcomed as a fellow Christian or would the congregation be a little uneasy welcoming someone who insists they are a Christian but who, because of their beliefs, obviously is not. Wouldn't the members of the congregation think this person was mentally disturbed? Answer honestly please.

Assuming they aren't there to proselytize, probably nothing. I was told at Chabad that there are always several Messianics that show up for Passover. This is probably a lot more common than people realize. I have heard rumors for a few years that there were Messianics in a certain (reform) synagogue. At the present time I could name one who attends the Reform Temple on Friday nights and the Messianic congregation on Saturdays

This actually happened at our house (not at a synagogue). One of them was a rabbi. Absolutely nothing happened, it was all very cordial. The conversation, as I recall, was about "Star Trek".

First,an indeterminate and very intense stare-down..One could almost see the thick cloud of tension in the air,until finally,one extremely bold gang member from the "East Side Messianics",breaks the eerie silence and proposes a pastry bake-off..then all hell breaks loose…a deafening flurry of clanging bakery pans,unleavened dough and rolling pins…to be continued..

Actually in my community, they invite us and welcome us with smiles when we’re able to join them. There is no animosity (except in Yahoo) because they know we don’t evangelize, and they also know we are strong supporters of Israel.

The person would be treated with dignity and respect as long as he honored the place he was in and didn’t try to recruit there. All strangers are welcome in a Jewish congregation. He wouldn’t be allowed to join or marry there but he could share the facility’s warmth and break bread with them. If that doesn’t happen, the congregants are not following the precepts of their own religion. In all branches of Judaism, the stranger is an honored guest … but guests need to know their place in the order of things as well.
