What are the beliefs of Christian Orthodox about sex?

My boyfriend is Christian Orthodox and i wanted to know about what their beliefs about sex are. I am Catholic and i wouldnt know. I have been thinking for a while about having sex with him but personally im trying to keep my self abstinent until im married (but you never know, just saying). And people please dont get all mad at me, im just curious.

do not base your actions on others beliefs. base them off of your own. be open to correction, but follow your mind. they do not believe it is right to have sex outside of marriage, between man and woman. as a christian, you should believe that too. you must constantly fight the desires of your sinful flesh. we will all sin, but we can not give up the fight. we will not be perfect, but we must try to be so that we demonstrate to God true repentance. so, while you will not be condemned to hell if you a christian when you sin, as a christian, you will be constantly fighting sin. so, fight the urge to have sex outside of marriage, and trust in God, and he will provide. and if you mess up, repent and keep on fighting. if you give up or continually give in, it may indicate that you are not a christian, or that you need some serious help. God bless, and good luck following God on the path of righteousness.

You’ll find that the Orthodox hold the same views as Catholics. BUt there are no defined dogmas on some topics, such as birth control. It’s handled by the priest on an individual basis.

The same as in Catholic religion. One should try not to be ’sinful’ before marriage.
But there is a difference concerning priests and sex. Orthodox priests are allowed to marry and have children.

    ;)

    Cheers

If you are looking to the Bible for an answer, then I think this one explains it best:

"Now concerning the things whereof ye wrote unto me: It is good for a man not to touch a woman [or, "It is good for a man not to have sexual relations with a woman," according to the NIV footnote]. Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband." (1 Corinthians 7:1-2, KJV)

"Flee from sexual immorality." (1 Corinthians 6:18)

"Fornication: Sexual intercourse that is "illicit", outside of marriage." (Medical Dictionary)

All non-marriage sex is a sin.

    Contraception is sometimes allowed.

Orthodox beliefs are much the same as Roman Catholic belief. Marriage is the only place where sex is allowed. Outside marriage, it is sin.

"The Orthodox Church remains faithful to the biblical and traditional norms regarding premarital sexual relations between men and women. The only appropriate and morally fitting place for the exercise of sexual relations, according to the teachings of the Church, is marriage. The moral teaching of the Church on this matter has been unchanging since its foundation. In sum, the sanctity of marriage is the cornerstone of sexual morality. The whole range of sexual activity outside marriage – fornication, adultery and homosexuality – are thus seen as not fitting and appropriate to the Christian way of life." [1]

After marriage, the Orthodox are less obtrusive about what goes on between spouses, but again, sex is only with your spouse.

I encourage abstinence for you both. Be careful – you are both "just" human. You are made in the image of God; keep that in mind in all you do.

The Christian Orthodox church has the same doctrines as Catholics: if you are practicing either one, you are not suppose to have sex before marriage. However, a lot of Catholics and Christian Orthodox do not follow this moral anymore, so the only way to know for sure is to talk to your bf about what he believes.
