It says on wikipedia that spongebob is an icon for gay men, but how is he? Does anyone know?

SpongeBob is seen as an icon for adult gay men in the US, apparently because he regularly holds hands with his sidekick Patrick.

    I've never heard that…. I'm thinking the guy behind that Wiki page thinks he's funny..

    But sponge bob is pretty gay but I wouldn't make him my icon since there are smarter gay guys to pick from.

    I've never heard about Spongebob being an icon for gay men. What is that supposed to mean? Is it like, hey, move over Cher and Madonna and make room for Spongebob? I don't think so… Also, Wikipedia is not a reliable source, and that's why most universities will not allow Wikipedia as a source in a thesis or a simple essay.

    I don't really care. I find it worse that they use sex to sell kids toys on BK commercials…but that's just how old fashioned I am…
