How do you get and keep the start icon,favorites, and other desktop icons back?

My start icon disappeared, along with other tools bars, How can I get them back?

Your whole Start button disappeared? Is it hiding? (Wave the mouse near the bottom of the screen or <Ctrl><Esc>.)If you can rightclick Start, Properties, you can change the behavior.
