How do i remove a icon on the taskbar notification area on the desktop?

Theres been this icon on the bottom righthand corner of the screen that blinks constantly. I tried putting it on ''hide'' but every time i turn back on the computer its there. It is untitled and i do not know were to remove it. I think it appeared because of a virus.

If you could give me any adware/vius advice that would be helpful as well.

Scan your PC with these two. Both are free and safe to use.

Spybot – Search & Destroy detects and removes spyware, a relatively new kind of threat not yet covered by common anti-virus applications. Spyware silently tracks your surfing behaviour to create a marketing profile for you that is transmitted without your knowledge to the compilers and sold to advertising companies. If you see new toolbars in your Internet Explorer that you haven't intentionally installed, if your browser crashes inexplicably, or if your home page has been "hijacked" (or changed without your knowledge), your computer is most probably infected with spyware. Even if you don't see the symptoms, your computer may be infected, because more and more spyware is emerging. Spybot-S&D is free.

Hover your mouse over the icon and it should tell you what the icon is actually for and post what is says.

If it is a notification of your comp being at risk of infection then the remove is here and ad advice too and FREE http://homepage.ntlworld.com/websitehomepage/Files/HijackMalwareRemoval.htm
