How did they affect the protestant reformation ? What was there role ?

Spain under Philip II was a strong power and was considered the champion of Catholicism and she took all measures to bring the protestants and protestant countries back to catholicism. Moreover she was a strong naval power- perhaps the strongest in the Mediterranean.
The Spanish Armada was sent to conquer England that had by then become protestant. There were other causes as well for Spain to consider England as her enemy no 1.
In the war the comparatively small British navy completely destroyed the Spanish navy.
A victory for Spain would have meant continued harassment of the Protestants. With English victory this threat was now over and protestantism could co-exist with Catholicism.

I’m looking for verses and passes in the Bible that talk of homosexuality. I’m not knocking anything, or anyone, I’m just doing a research paper on gay rights and was planning to use the Bible as a refrecne. Anything would be greatly appreciated!

Hey there,

Lana makes some interesting points but I disagree – there’s a LOT more research on why some people are gay and lesbian. There’s no evidence that homosexuality is a learned behaviour or a psychological disorder, and plenty that suggests it’s biological. For example, there are some fun facts like gay men are much more likely to be left handed than straight men. How do social theories account for that? Did we learn that at gay school?! Come on!

As for the sexual orientation of scientists – is that less biased than attempts by one Christian scientist recently to "prove" that you can change someones sexual orientation? (his research was seriously flawed – the equivalent of travelling to Scotland, interviewing only people who both worked in the Scottish tourist industry and who claimed to have had seen the Loch Ness Monster, and claiming that this was proof she exists!) It also doesn;t account for the many studies published by straight scientists which support the view that sexual orientation is biological.

BUT – say we were able to locate the "gay gene" (not that it’ll be one gene, it’ll be polygenic), what would that prove? It would mean only that gay men and lesbians are born that way, much like some people are born blind or deaf.

Sexual orientation has no moral gradient – sexual behaviour on the other hand does. Which by the way is all the Bible mentions. The concept of sexual orientation is only ~150 years old. Given that the Bible was completed in 98AD, it must be talking about homosexual behaviour, NOT homosexual orientation. (simple logic!)

The Bible doesn’t say that loving same-sex relationships are wrong. What it’s talking about are abusive homosexual relationships (look at the quote from Romans 1 – it is very clear, lust – not love!). I’ve attached a link which might help with that some more.

Hope you get on well with your paper!

Hi,
How do I train for myself and my horse for cross country? See I moved to a different city and the place I was at before had a cross country coarse and jumps and everything. Well the new place I am at there is no jumps or cross country coarse only trails. So what can I do to be ready to do cross country races when show season starts?
Does those things really help to train for cross country?

If you’re handy, cross country jumps are not too difficult to build. But if you’re serious about eventing, you’ll just need to trailer your horse over to places that allow cross country schooling. Even when you board at a farm with some cross country jumps, you still should trailer to other places as they may have more jumps on the course, different types of fences, tougher terrain, etc. Your eventing trainer should be able to set you up with some schooling opportunities. If you don’t have a trailer, maybe you could pay somebody at your barn to take you??? Good luck, finding cross country schooling opportunities can be difficult.

We welcome people of all beliefs in our congregation and wonder if it would be reciprocal.

Assuming they aren’t there to proselytize, probably nothing. I was told at Chabad that there are always several Messianics that show up for Passover.

This is probably a lot more common than people realize. I have heard rumors for a few years that there were Messianics in a certain (reform) synagogue. At the present time I could name one who attends the Reform Temple on Friday nights and the Messianic congregation on Saturdays
