Whats the difference between cross drilled and slotted rotors?
I have a 06 accord that I need to change the rotors on. I’m a hard braker and I usually find that the rotors I have will warp easily. I was told to upgrade to either a cross drilled or a slotted rotors to help prevent this. Any advice?
It is how they are done. Cross drilled is done by drilling through the face of the rotor. Slotted is done by milling a curved slot on the face of the rotor (I think). Something I heard is, that no matter who you buy them from or how they are done, eventually they will develop cracks due to the stress points from the drilled holes or slotting. Try to get a good warranty if you buy these. Good luck.

Cross drilled has holes going through the rotor in an in line pattern.
Slotted rotor just has a groove line on the surface of the rotor.
They both allow better air flow on the surface of the rotor where it mates with the brake pad.
Use the cross drilled. It works better. Find rotors that are made in Japan this way it won’t warp that easy. It would then last you longer. also use metallic pads to make these rotors last longer. Some Ceramic pads are known to score and eat up the surface of the rotor.
Always make sure the brakes are warm up before heavy braking to avoid brake problems. Also do not use Italian, Chinese or Mexican made rotors+ Pads.

I agree with Bub .
You might also try changing the calipers to ones with more Pistons
which spreads the pressure over a bigger area on the rotors

As some of the previous people said, the difference is basically ventilation. On a normal rotor you see a flat surface like this:

, however it is still ventilated. On a cross drilled rotor, they drill holes to provide better ventilation. On slotted rotors the provide ventilation without sacrificing the structural integrity of the rotor. Cross Drilled rotors are more apt to cracking than slotted rotors. Or you can get cross drilled and slotted rotors. I suggest you use the link I listed above. Tirerack is an excellent vendor for tires,brakes, suspension, etc. Just make sure to enter your exact trim of your accord. I assumed your car was a sedan, and an ex. If you really want to increase your braking, I would suggest getting a big brake kit from Brembo. However the price is quite up there.
