How do i become good at cross country?

So i start my sophomore year at high school in a few days and i wanna do cross country again, but i don’t want to become the worst on the team. I wasn’t able to train this summer because of feet surgery. Dose anyone have any tips for running? like how to stay hydrated, pacing, training, what shoes, eating, ect.

yes i do have some tips but now is too late to get into shape for cross country, (since it is coming up so soon) all you can do is to do your best. i also have some tips for you

a lot of times they will make you stretch first and then do the warm up, this is wrong because stretching not warmed up muscles is almost useless. if you stretch after the warm up it works 5 times better and you will be loose, and not as sore. before you do your run drink a bottle of water or go to a drinking fountain and drink a lot. this will prevent you from getting cramps. make sure you stretch out very good after your workouts because that wil keep you from getting sore the next day. as for eating, you can eat whatever you want in however big quantities as you want since you will burn at least 500 calories a day maybe even 1000 some days. but there are somethings you cant eat. no carbonated beverages which take out oxygen from your blood. eat more greens which put in more oxygen into it. dont eat fast food or food that is highly unhealthy. and if you do then dont do it too often.
everyone has different feet shapes and sizes, that is why you cant rely on suggestions from people to buy stuff automaticaly. you are going to have to try on any shoe before you buy it or else you will have to pay the shipping (if it is online) to return it and it will cost you time. i suggest you just get some trainers or running shoes. go to many shoe or running shoe stores and try on shoes. take the ones you like the most. and rate them by these things in order

fit-not to tight not too loose

support- mostly the heel on the back (size) (bigger better)

comfortability- feels good to walk in them

look- self explanatory

color- match with most of your shirts/ clothes

if you try on a pair of shoes that you like you can try buying them on ebay or eastbay.com, or any other running shoe website and are likely to get them cheap

good luck with cross country and i hope you do well this year despite your surgery!
