Thanks for the help. Both me and my boyfriend are students, and would rather emphasise marriage for what it is in our wedding rather than just an opportunity for a big party. Obviously we want to keep everything as inexpensive as possible, and knowing this is such a big help. God Bless xxx

This will vary from church to church but shouldn’t be over a few hundred dollars… If you can’t afford it let the church know and the pastor will probably wave the fee…

It varies but if you cannot afford it then it is free.

The Code of Canon Law #848 states:

The minister is to seek nothing for the administration of the sacraments beyond the offerings defined by competent authority, always taking care that the needy are not deprived of the assistance of the sacraments because of poverty.

This means that the bishop may set standard fees or ‘offerings,’ but all fees must be waived for the poor. This also means that the fees will change from diocese to diocese.

My fiance's parish will be about $300 as well, $150 for the deacon, and $150 for the music director.

If it’s his parish church then they will probably only ask for a donation of however much you can afford to give and feel is right to give. If it’s not his parish church then some churches will charge a fee (price differs from church to church, for example, Cathedral’s are more expensive than normal churches). BUT if he’s a practicing Catholic then some churches are willing to waive the fee in favour of a donation.

Other costs that have nothing to do with the venue hire are: Organist hire and flower arrangements (if you have the church put them up). Some music directors only charge a fee and some ask a donation.

Call the parish office and ask them, they’ll know exactly what you want to know and you won’t be committing to anything if you call them or go see them.

the church that we're getting married at costs us $300, the minimum payment is actually $400 but we decided to give $300 for the church and $100 for the celebrant

the ceremony don’t cost anything. they typically ask for at least a $300 offering but you have to pay for your pre marriage counseling.

All churches are different. You aren't really paying for the use of the church, you're making an offering. Call the church and ask them what is customary for a wedding offering.

If you are members of the church it won’t cost you a thing.
