Has the Roman Catholic church started to become less powerful and less influential in recent years?

I have absolutely NOTHING against the Roman Catholic church, it's just what I've been seeing recently.

Who knew that South America wasn't part of "the West"….

Still, I think it's true that in the most modernized societies a placidity regarding religion has become the trend. In very modernized societies like the U.S., religion is becoming less and less important to people (who concern themselves more and more with the material world, regardless of their religion). This is probably why the "Jesus for Money" preachers are doing so well in the U.S. – those who promise wealth as the result of being a faithful Christian are gaining huge followings.

Only in the West. They're still strong in South America and Africa.

Well when 'they' start to believe in the LIE of evolution, their 'Foundation" will crumble anyway.

In America, yes, but they are growing in South America and Africa, where they are essentially condemning Africans to an AIDS epidemic.

Seeing 'where you are'…because in the parts of the world where it is growing (Africa, South Korea, etc.) its influence has become greater and greater.

Know, too, that its decline in influence correlates greatly to those societies that are dying out from sub-replacement fertility and influx of Islam.

Many would call this the most important book of the last 10 years..It goes very much against what you imply.

America Alone: The End of the World as We Know It (Hardcover)
    by Mark Steyn

    FROM A REVIEW :
"In the ongoing conflict between the West and Islam, both the demographics and the will to power favor the Islamists. That a country like Spain, with a birth rate of 1.15 children per adult women, will extinguish itself in a few generations, while immigrants from countries such as Pakistan (birth rate 4.53) will move in to fill the vacuum.

    2) That as an aggressive, unassimilated minority edges closer to a majority (as in France, with an estimated 30% Muslim population in the under 20 age group), the character of the democratic institutions will become more closely aligned with Islamic law and culture.

    3) That the post-Christian welfare state is largely to blame for the pessimism and failures of will demonstrated by Europe.

    4) That America represents the primary exception to this trend, if only by degree, and that only a concerted effort to save our society stands a chance of reversing these trends. "

The true Roman Catholic Church, outside of which no one is saved, is the Mystical Body of Christ, which must walk to Calvary again in the fulfillment of the Scriptures which say:

"Let no man deceive you by any means, for unless there come a revolt first, and the man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition, 4 Who opposeth, and is lifted up above all that is called God, or that is worshipped, so that he sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself as if he were God."

It's not about the Church becoming less powerful or less influential, it is about understanding that the prophecies in Scripture will be fulfilled, and ask yourself if we are living in such eschatological times.

Now God desires the salvation of all men, but all men can only be saved if they join themselves to God's One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church, and the real tradgedy is that as the Mystical Body of Christ slowly disappears–that is becomes harder for people to find–it is their eternal salvation that is in jeopardy; for we are assured by Christ Himself : "And I say to thee: That thou art Peter; and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it."

This is to be understood that as the infant Church of God existed in the hearts of only a few, so it will continue to exist as long as there are a few living members on earth: "I say to you, that he will quickly revenge them. But yet the Son of man, when he cometh, shall he find, think you, faith on earth?"
