What passages in the Bible could be used to argue that abortion is wrong?

Where in the Bible does it say that abortion is wrong?

Here are some, they don't specifially say abortion, as it was not around, but for arguing these can be used to imply there is life to an unborn featus :

Did not he who made me in the womb make them? Did not the same one form us both within our mothers? (Job 31:15).

Yet you brought me out of the womb; you made me trust in you even at my mother's breast. From birth I was cast upon you; from my mother's womb you have been my God (Psalm 22:9-10).

For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be (Psalm 139:13-16).

This is what the LORD says—he who made you, who formed you in the womb, and who will help you…(Isaiah 44:2).

Listen to me, O house of Jacob, all you who remain of the house of Israel, you whom I have upheld since you were conceived, and have carried since your birth. Even to your old age and gray hairs I am he, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you (Isaiah 46:3-4).

And now the LORD says—he who formed me in the womb to be his servant to bring Jacob back to him and gather Israel to himself, for I am honored in the eyes of the LORD and my God has been my strength (Isaiah 49:5).

The word of the LORD came to me, saying, "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations" (Jeremiah 1:4-5).

When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. In a loud voice she exclaimed: "Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child you will bear! As soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy" (Luke 1:41-42, 44).

It doesn't. It's all part of Christian hysteria about sex.

Nowhere is abortion condemned in the Bible, it's a creative interpretation that some feel is implied.

The one that comes to mind as the debate is whether or not an unborn child is a living being is "Thou shalt not kill." Deuteronomy 5:17.

There are only two issues to consider:

    1. Is the unborn child (‘fetus’) a human being?

    2. If so, is it ever acceptable to kill the unborn?

The answer to both questions is in Genesis.

Genesis 25:21–22 states: ‘and Rebekah his [Isaac’s] wife conceived. And the children struggled together within her; …’ Note that Rebekah’s unborn twins, Jacob and Esau, are referred to as ‘children’ (the Hebrew word used, banim (plural of ben), commonly refers to children after birth, and often has a more specific meaning ‘sons’.

The New Testament uses the usual Greek word for baby, brephos, to refer to the unborn John the Baptist, who ‘leaped in her [Elizabeth’s] womb’ because of the presence of the unborn Christ Luke 1:41–44).

Unborn babies are not disposable clumps of tissue, despite the claims of many pro-abortionists. And they are always human right from fertilization, because all the DNA coding needed to build each individual’s physical features is there in the fertilized egg.

The second question is also answered in Genesis. Genesis 1:26–29 and 2:7–23 make it clear that man was created distinct from the animals, made in God’s image. In Genesis 3 we read how this image was corrupted by the sin of the first humans, Adam and Eve. Only one generation later, Cain committed the first murder, a destruction of this image, thus a grievous affront to God. Violence (and other evils) spread throughout the world, so God destroyed all people apart from the Ark’s passengers with a globe-covering flood (Genesis 6–8).

Right throughout Scripture, murder — that is the intentional killing of innocent humans — is regarded as a heinous sin (Exodus 20:13, Matthew 19:18, Romans 13:9). Since abortion kills an innocent human being, it is nothing less than murder. So all the usual ‘hard cases’ pushed by pro-abortionists, e.g. ‘What if the woman was raped?’, ‘What if the child is deformed?’, ‘What if she can’t afford to keep the child?’ are completely irrelevant. We should also remember Ezekiel 18:20, which prohibits executing a child for the crime of his/her father — this means that even the tragic cases of pregnancies due to incest or rape are no justification for killing the innocent child conceived.

The onus is on the pro-life lobby to prove the claim that the unborn really isn’t a human baby, contrary to Scripture and science.

It is not enough to say ‘we don’t know whether it’s human.’ A hunter is criminally liable if he shoots towards a movement in the bush, not knowing whether a human or deer caused the movement. And an explosives engineer is criminally liable if he blows up a building, not knowing whether there are any people inside. If the baby is human, and killing a human is wrong, then everything else is a smoke-screen.

The fact that some babies die of natural causes before birth does not make abortion acceptable any more than the fact that everyone eventualy dies makes murder acceptable.

No where. The bible shouldnt be used to argue about anything. even in the case of god. In fact I can argue, with the bible, that abortion is actually a good thing. The bible says god plans everything and everything that happens is according to his plan, thus it means that god planned for that woman to get pregnant and then he planned for that doctor to be at that clinic and for that woman to get an abortion. If his plan is really over everything than people shouldnt be trying to stop abortion you should instead be praising the people for carrying out gods plan.

The big one would be "thou shalt not murder" in Exodus. Then you would back that up by Jeremiah 1:5 that says "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you.." There is a web pagethat has it perfectly put. The respect for human life is the most important issue. They put it like this:
What does determine our value is simply this: we are humans. We are conceived in the image of God. God has breathed into us our human spirit—and it is that spirit which gives us our innate value. Therefore, all human beings—whether small or large, new or old, productive or unproductive, intelligent or not, strong or weak, here or there—are innately worthy of respect. To kill any of them as a matter of convenience is morally wrong.

    PERFECT!!

The first institution God established for mankind was the family. After God created man and woman, we read (Genesis 2:24): Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. In God's blessing for mankind and this union of man and woman, He commanded (Genesis 1:28b): "… Be fruitful and multiply;…."

    Psalm 139:13-16:
"For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother's womb. I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them."

The only passage you should dwell on is:

LUKE 6:41 "Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 42 How can you say to your brother, `Brother, let me take the speck out of your eye,' when you yourself fail to see the plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye.

I'm sorry I don't have time to look up the exact location of the quote, but I'm thinking about the Scripture about how St. John the Baptist, as a babe still in his mother's womb, leaped, when his mother met the Virgin Mary while she had Christ in the womb. The babe in the womb leaped in recognition of the Savior still in the womb….

Jehovah is the Source of life. All living things owe their life to God. (Psalm 36:9) Life is sacred to God. Even the life of an unborn child inside its mother is precious to Jehovah. To kill such a developing baby on purpose is wrong in God's eyes.—Exodus 21:22, 23; Psalm 127:3.

    Exodus 21:22, 23
And in case men should struggle with each other and they really hurt a pregnant woman and her children do come out but no fatal accident occurs, he is to have damages imposed upon him without fail according to what the owner of the woman may lay upon him; and he must give it through the justices. 23 But if a fatal accident should occur, then you must give soul for soul,

    Psalm 127:3
    Look! Sons are an inheritance from Jehovah;
The fruitage of the belly is a reward.

To kill an unborn,is to kill the hope of what is becoming. All life starts with a seed, and so to kill the seed or cut off its growth is to kill. We kill what we don't want. In this case it is human life? Why are we selective? Do i think its murder, legalized murder, it is to me!
Only when the woman's life is endangered do i think it is Ok.Also i think if the child is so deformed inside that it will have a life a shear misery i feel abortion is justified. Otherwise adoption agency will solve the other problems of not wanting the child.

Yes, abortion is wrong. The Lord has said, "You shall not murder," (Exodus 20:13). The life that is growing within the mother is a child, a baby. The Bible looks at the life in the womb as a child.: Exodus 21:22 says, "And if men struggle with each other and strike a woman with child so that she has a miscarriage, yet there is no further injury, he shall surely be fined as the woman's husband may demand of him; and he shall pay as the judges decide," (NASB).1

The main concern of the "Pro-Choicers" is not the guarded protection of the life in the womb. Instead, the main concern is the "rights" of the mother over and against the rights of the child growing in her. The child, who cannot exercise its own will, is killed. And, in order to make the killing more palatable, the baby is called a "fetus", or "non-viable", or "not yet human", etc. This eases the conscience. But, for those who say the baby isn't 'viable', have you ever seen a sonogram of an abortion? You can see the 'non-viable fetus' retracting from the instruments of death and seeking self preservation. It wants to live. Some would respond by saying that even a rodent wants to live. But what is in the womb of the mother is human.

The Bible says for people to protect the weak and down trodden. But with abortionists, the rights of the baby are sacrificed to the rights of the mother — and the father doesn't even have any rights. The mother cries out that the life in here is part of her body and that she has the right to do with her body as she wills.

True love does not seeks its own, but is other centered. It gives. "For God so loved the world he GAVE his only begotten son…" (John 3:16). Abortion is the ultimate in selfishness. It puts the mother's convenience and desires above the life of her own baby. To kill the baby in the womb means to consider oneself more important than anyone else.

Even in nature, as far as I understand, animals don't kill what is in their own wombs. People are the only ones who kill their young while still unborn. In this society of "self esteem," "personal accomplishments," and "empowerment," true love is losing out and death is winning.

However, there is hope in Jesus. If you've had an abortion, you can be forgiven by the Lord. All you need to do is confess it to the Lord Jesus and ask Him to forgive you. That is what I did years ago when the girl I lived with became pregnant and had an abortion. I was guilty. As a man, the inner turmoil and guilt I felt was horrible. I can't imagine what it would be life for a woman. Nevertheless, the Lord has graciously forgiven me and her. I say this only in the hopes that others would come to find the sweet forgiveness found in Jesus.

Although the bible is not an authority on God, there is still much truth within this book.. The bible clearly states that God knew you even before you entered the womb..I believe therefore life begins at conception and all taking of life is wrong. God bless
