What do the "Bible is the perfect instruction manual for life" folks think about healthy diet and exercise?

Serious question.

I’ve met people who claim the Bible contains all the information a person needs. If there are any of those folks reading this question, how do you feel about the importance of a healthy diet and exercise?

I think that’s incorrect. The Bible doesn’t say all that much about our health. If I remember correctly it says something about walking for health but it wasn’t a commanded or a sin not to.

    "Your body is a temple".

    Vague, but applicable.

Man’s original diet was vegetarian. Genesis 1:29.

Read the first 5 books of the bible and it will lay out the diet for you… However Peter was later given a vision that all things are now clean…

Even those whom subscribe to a "healthy diet and exercise" die some day.

Most of the dietary requirements are outlined in Leviticus.
Common sense shows the importance of diet and exercise.

Well it says its a sin to be a glutton, which is a person that takes more than he needs. A lot of people forget about this one.

And so do I, I need to remember only to take what I need.

There is much counsel about diet, and avoiding gluttony, and unhealthy things. And much exhortation to be industrious. Back then there wasn’t the opportunity to be as lazy as one can be today.

Read Exodus. There’s chapters dedicated to healthy diets. As for exercise, the Bible was written in a time where people had no technology. So they worked outdoors a lot. They got plenty of exercise. They didn’t have TV so they didn’t sit around all day. They didn’t have office jobs, where they just sat at a desk. SO! It’s safe to say the Bible is the ultimate health book too.

As for myself, I would quantify it as "all the spiritual instructions I need for life". That is all it was meant to be. We can discover and disseminate proper diet and exercise for ourselves. Thanks for asking.

A healthy diet along with exercise is real good for the body and the mind ! In Jesus’ time (and beforehand), all they had to was fresh and natural foods. There was no such thing as "processed" or "fast food" back then. The main source of exercise was/is walking !
Walking is one of the simplest yet best way to lose weight and increase the cardio !!

Interesting you’d ask that! I was in a study of the book of Daniel and came across a book called "Daniel’s Diet". He ate vegetables, if you remember, and was much healthier than those other people that were eating meat.

I am not a vegetarian…but I know if I eat a diet of fruit, vegetables, lean meat and fish, man…I feel 100% better. That goes with exercising too. As you get older (which I am doing), you "get away" with less and less physically; if I want to keep working and feel my best, I can’t eat junk food anymore.

Healthy diet and exercise release endorphins and all, so that makes you feel so much better.

Reading can be relaxing, but I’m going have to go with exercise on this.
