When you read the bible you need to pray for GOD to give you wisdom concerning what you read.He will make it come alive for you,and let you see what he wants you to know. The bible is GODs plan and guidebook for you.GOD-bless

The single most important thing to know when reading the bible, is that it is a 2000 year old work of fiction, written by some men in order to create a religion and control a population of illiterate sheepherders. The fact that these men TOLD everyone that the stuff they were writing was essentially dictated by “god” makes it even MORE important to remember that they basically made everything up or stole it from earlier writings.

I hope that you are reading a good modern translation, not the KJV.

It forbids taking interest on loans, it says you should respect all religions (in Malachi), it says there is no afterlife (Ecclesiastes) and it says there should be a Jubilee every fifty years during which no work should be done and all debts cancelled. It depicts and condones two loving relationships between people of the same sex (David and Jonathan and Ruth and Naomi). It forbids boiling a kid goat in its mother’s milk and the wearing of mixed fibres.

Well, you asked specifically for “important guidelines”

    here
    http://www.bible-reviews.com/separating.html

here (yes, read the whole single chapter)
    http://www.studybibleforum.com/htm_php.php3?do=jump_to_chapter&refstr=Acts%2015&trans=NASB

here, verse 14 (“according to his will” is something most overlook) **and** verses 16-17, which clearly show a separation of degree of sin into two categories (and instructs us how to deal with each). These 2 verses tie in very well with the “separating sins” of the first link.

Finally, an answer to the “don’t work on Saturday” answer (his other objections are addressed by the above passages) verses 5-6

    verse 16 here

The Bible also offers sound guidelines on other moral issues. It encourages kindness, fairness, justice, truth, honor, decency, a sense of responsibility, and humane concern for others. Its moral advice is summed up in the Golden Rule: “All things, therefore, that you want men to do to you, you also must likewise do to them.”—Matthew 7:12.
