What is the protocol for a Catholic wedding ceremony?

I’m getting married next summer. I’m Catholic, but my fiance is not. I’ve always been very laid-back about my religion, therefore I’m not very clear on the rules and regulations when it comes to Catholic wedding ceremonies. I have some pretty die-hard Catholics in my family that insist on having everything done the right way. What do I need to know to get this thing started? I’m going to be making an appointment to see my parish pastor soon in order to get wedding arrangements in order. Any advice?

The Catholic Church allows marriage between Catholics and non-Catholics.

Anyone married in the Catholic Church has to:
+ Take a pre-marriage course
+ Promise to baptize and educate their children in the Catholic Church.

Here is a good article with suggestions on how to help an interchurch marriage succeed: http://www.americancatholic.org/Newsletters/CU/ac0690.asp

What should a christian husband do if his wife starts listening to gangsta rap against his will?

Gangsta rap is not christian music yet a friend of mine has a wife who is listening to it now. What should he do? He already told her not to.

Have him get rid of all the music that she is listening to that is offensive. She should be respecting her husband and submitting to him. Obviously she is not or it would not be going on after he told her not to. But be warned, she will probably divorce him for it. He better get his funds in order and prepare for her to leave him. It is unfortunate, but in our liberated equal rights society this is the type of crap we as men have to take for trying to enforce our role as husbands in accordance with God’s holy law.

It never pays to listen to the majority. Christians have always been the mistreated and outnumbered.

How do you change your yahoo answers icon to a picture?

You know your icon for yahoo answers? Well I see people have ones of their cat, or a horse, etc. I can only change mine to a avatar how do I change it to a picture of like my dog or cat on my computer?

1. Go to your yahoo answers profile page
2. Click on "view my profile", which is on the right side of your information and stuff.
3. Put your mouse pointer over your picture. A thing will pop up that says "change photo." Click on that.
4. Click the thing that says "add photo."
5. Click "browse" and search your computer for the picture you want
6. Do step two (enter the text that’s in the box), then click "upload."
7. Crop your picture to how you want it and click "crop."
8. Click on the photo you just put in there and click "use selected photo."
9. Go back to your yahoo answers profile page.
10. Click on "edit my info" (also on the right side of your information/under IM and email things).
11. Go to the picture section (the second one, under nickname) and select "use my profile image."
12. Scroll down to the bottom and click "preview."

That should do it. Hopefully this made sense.

What is your favourite cross breed of dog?

Because pure breds have so many problems I’m wondering what your favourite cross breed is and/or mutt?
Just FYI pure bred dogs do tend to have more health problems because they are increasingly in bred to keep the purity in the line.

I can’t pick a favorite cross, because every dog is different.

I’ve owned the following mixed breed dogs:
Passed on
German Shepherd/Lab (M)- Buddy
Blue Heeler/Collie (F)- Diamond
Border Collie/Blue Heller/Black Lab (F)-Juliette
German Shepherd/Terrier (F)-Mazley

Currently with me
Great Pyrenees/Collie/other (M)-Patches
Patches/Husky/German Shepherd/other (F) Sasha (Patches’ daughter)

I also currently own 2 purebred dogs
Dalmatian (M)- Nitro
"Mini" Australian Shepherd (F)- Rain

The best behaved dog was Buddy, maybe because we were his forth home and we got him when he was approximately 6 years old, he died of cancer when he was around 13 years old.

Not all purebreds have problems.

I also HATE when people have to give their mutts "designer" breed names! Sometimes it’s harder to figure out what breeds a dog is when they use a "fancy" name instead of just saying what mix the dog is.

Does the bible speak of someone praising themselves and putting others down?

I have a friend that does this and he keeps telling me what a wonderful christian he is so I was wondering is there anything in the bible that talks about this. Also is there anything that talks about needing to be the center of attention and believing that it is ok to yell at scream at others. Please can someone help me on this.

Being too proud of oneself is actually a common mention in the bible in general. You will see many religious leaders in the bible get accused by Jesus Himself.

The verse I think that most directly relates to your request is Luke 18:9-14

"9To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everybody else, Jesus told this parable: 10"Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. 11The Pharisee stood up and prayed about[a] himself: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other men—robbers, evildoers, adulterers—or even like this tax collector. 12I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.’
13"But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner.’

14"I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted."

What are some differences between a Catholic Mass and an Orthodox Divine Liturgy?

(I believe that is the right word for Orthodox Service)
All I know is That during the Divine Liturgy you stand the whole time.

One significant difference is that portion of the Anaphora prayers called the "epiklisis" — the calling upon the Holy Spirit to descend and change the bread and wine in to the body and blood of Christ is *missing* from the Roman mass. In the Roman mass, the change is considered to occur as the priest quotes the words "This is my body… this is my bloood". The Orthodox Divine Liturgy contains those words, but there is an additional prayer:

"Priest (in a low voice): Once again we offer to You this spiritual worship without the shedding of blood, and we ask, pray, and entreat You: send down Your Holy Spirit upon us and upon these gifts here presented.

Priest: And make this bread the precious Body of Your Christ.

Amen.

Priest: And that which is in this cup the precious Blood of Your Christ.

Amen.

Priest: Changing them by Your Holy Spirit. Amen. Amen. Amen.
"
In some parishes (including ours) the prayers are said aloud, and the various "Amen"s are spoken by the people.

Which is another point. There must be lay persons at an Orthodox Divine Liturgy. It is not allowed to have a liturgy with only clergy present. The people must be there, too, so there are no "private masses" in Orthodoxy.

Can a ex catholic still receive communion in a catholic church?

I have not been to a Catholic mass in like 9 years, I am now a member of MCC. I am wondering if I can still receive the body and blood at a catholic mass.

If you are not in communion with the Catholic Church then you should not receive Communion in a Catholic Church.

At the Last Supper, Jesus said, “Take this bread. It is my body.” Then he said, “Take this and drink. This is my blood. Do this in memory of me.”

Catholics believe this was the First Eucharist, that through a miracle the bread and wine actually became the body and blood of Jesus Christ.

Catholics reenact the Last Supper during every Mass, where God, acting through the priest, changes the bread and wine into the body and blood of Jesus Christ.

This is a great sacrament of thanksgiving and unity of Catholics.

Any Bible verses talking about how the Christian life is supposed to be exciting and not a bore?

Please share any verses/passages. For all the God/Christianity/Bible haters out there: any inappropriate answers will be reported.

Thanks in advance everyone!

Look up the words "happy" and "rejoice" (or some variation of those words) and you will see just how exciting the Christian life really is! My favorite is all of Psalm 144, but especially vs.15.

"Happy are the people who are in such a state. Happy are the people whose God is the Lord!"

EDIT– Another great one is Philippians 4:4 which says "Rejoice in the Lord always. Again, I will say rejoice!"

What effect did Marguerite de Navarre have on the Protestant Reformation?

I’m doing a project on Marguerite de Navarre and I’m a little confused. What effect did she have on the Protestant Reformation? What were religious beliefs? And help would be nice. Thanks!

As a generous patron of the arts, Marguerite befriended and protected many artists and writers, among them François Rabelais (1483–1553), Clément Marot (1496–1544), and Pierre de Ronsard (1524–1585); also, Marguerite was mediator between Roman Catholics and Protestants (including John Calvin). Although Marguerite espoused reform within the Catholic Church, she was not a Calvinist. She did, however, do her best to protect the Reformers and dissuaded Francis I from intolerant measures as long as she could…click on the link….hope this helps

what was the orthodox church doing when the western one underwent radical changes like the reformation?

i never hear anything about the eastern church, whereas the western church had the renaissance, reformation, counter-reformation, major missionary projects throughout the world. what scandals, problems and reforms did the orthodox church go through in the past thousand years?

The Orthodox Church hasn’t had any such problems because many eastern countries were part of the Ottoman Empire and everyone clung on to it as religion determined their national identity. Also, it’s rather tolerant (this may or may not be true, I’ve never paid attention in church). Now, as to problems, it has always meddled in politics etc., even though until recently everyone thought it was natural, it has tons of money, the Greek Orthodox Church was involved in some scandals recently…
