What are the consequences for a Catholic parent who has their child baptized Lutheran?

My husband is Catholic and I am Lutheran. We are trying to decide which church to have our newborn baptized in. We had decided Lutheran because it has less restrictions on Godparents. However, someone recently told us that if we went Lutheran, my husband would no longer be allowed to take communion in the Catholic church. Is this true? Need answers as now there is an increased amount of tension between us!

<<My husband is Catholic and I am Lutheran. We are trying to decide which church to have our newborn baptized in. We had decided Lutheran because it has less restrictions on Godparents.>>

You might do well to consider why those "restrictions" are in place.
I presume you take issue with these "restrictions" because a Catholic Baptism prevents certain Lutherans in your family from standing as godparent(s) to the Baptized child, right?

It is the responsibility of the godparents to raise and educate their godchild in the beliefs and practices of the Catholic Faith if the parents should become unable or unwilling to do so themselves.
Who better to do that than Catholics? That is why non-Catholics can’t be godparents.

Non-Catholics can stand as official Baptism Witnesses in a Catholic Baptism. Perhaps you can consider having your Lutheran relatives stand as Official Baptism Witnesses?

<<However, someone recently told us that if we went Lutheran, my husband would no longer be allowed to take communion in the
Catholic church. Is this true?>>

Yes – not that the Catholic Church is going to do anything to prevent him from receiving Communion if he were to do it anyway – but, the Truth is, by deliberately choosing to Baptize his child anything other than Catholic is to break a promise he made with God; the promise to raise his child(ren) in the beliefs and practices of the Catholic Faith.

<<Need answers as now there is an increased amount of tension between us!>>

It’s too late now but the time to have resolved this issue was sometime after you two got engaged but BEFORE you two got married.

Would you and your Lutheran godparent-hopefuls consider Official Baptism Witness? This is the resolution to the "problem".

The Military has turned into a Christian organization, Is this to support Christian foreign policy?

The military has essentially turned into a Christian organization. I am in a position to know this. Everything from Christian indoctrination in boot camp, forced prayer meetings and bible studies (upper chain of command) to advancement discrimination based upon religion. They ask what your religious preference is when you enlist, if your dog tags say None, they assume you’re an atheist. There is heavy discrimination against all non christians, not just atheists.

Do Christians support this?

There are several lawsuits in the works to push back on this trend, and there have been many successes in doing this.

If you wish to help, the Freedom from Religion Foundation does a lot of good work in this area. There are also groups, such as the Military Religious Freedom Foundation that pushes back on religious encrouchment in the military.

What is the difference between Protestant Christian and Catholic?

and what other types of christians are there?

For example…. what are these churches?

Eveangelical
Methodist
Baptist

WHat are the differences ???

and what type of christians are thier?

ie… coptic/ catholic/ protestant…….

"What separates us as believers in Christ is much less than what unites us." (Pope John XXIII)

Almost all important doctrine is completely agreed upon between Catholic Christians and other Christians.

Here is the joint declaration of justification by Catholics (1999), Lutherans (1999), and Methodists (2006):

By grace alone, in faith in Christ’s saving work and not because of any merit on our part, we are accepted by God and receive the Holy Spirit, who renews our hearts while equipping us and calling us to good works.

http://www.vatican.va/roman_curia/pontifical_councils/chrstuni/documents/rc_pc_chrstuni_doc_31101999_cath-luth-joint-declaration_en.html

There are many minor doctrine issues and some major cultural traditional differences which, I believe, do not matter that much.

A Catholic worships and follows Christ in the tradition of Catholicism which, among other things, recognizes that Christ made Peter the leader of His new Church and Pope Benedict XVI is Peter’s direct successor.

For more information, see the Catechism of the Catholic Church: http://www.usccb.org/catechism/text/index.shtml

With love in Christ.

Any Greek Orthodox priests out there i can talk to about something?

Any orthodox priests who can possibly give me an email address so i can ask them something? Please.

Here are a few priests who seem, from their writings, as though they wouldn’t mind hearing from you:

• Fr. John Matusiak (OCA) [ tocmed@hotmail.com ]. He writes a Q&A feature for the OCA’s official website.

• Fr. Ares Metrakos (Greek) [ FrMetrakos@orthodoxytoday.org ]. He writes articles for the website _Orthodoxy Today_ that often deal with pastoral matters. He’s very down-to-earth.

• Fr. George Morelli (Antiochian) [ gmorelli@fdu.edu ]. He is a licensed clinical psychologist who writes frequently on pastoral issues, including for _Orthodoxy Today_.

• Regarding "Fr Alexander" on Yahoo Answers:

Unfortunately, we don’t know whether "Fr Alexander" is a real Orthodox priest. I looked over a selection of his answers, and they seem basically Orthodox in content, except for one dealing with ancient heresies — which should have been simple for a priest.

To be fair, we all have our bad days, and he noted that he might be wrong. But I must say that it is *very* odd that he calls himself a priest and does not fully identify himself or what Church exactly he belongs to. Before trusting any counsel you receive from him — or any supposed priest you find online — you should do the following:

1) Get from him his last name and the name of his archdiocese (i.e. his "jurisdiction") and the name of his bishop.

2) Check and see if the jurisdiction is mentioned at the relevant link below. If it isn’t, drop him like a hot potato.

3) If it is, click through to go to the official website of that jurisdiction, look him up there, and get his phone number. Then give him a call and make sure it’s the same guy.

There are a fair number of wackos and creeps out there who call themselves Orthodox clergy. It’ll be ten or so minutes well-spent.

What is the difference between Roman Catholics and other Christian Denominations?

I know there are probably many differences. But I would like to know the major ones I guess. Are Catholics the biggest Christian Denomination?

There are differences. Catholicism is the oldest and original Christian faith. All others were born of disagreement with Catholicism, therefore it stands to reason that they will have different beliefs and practices.

But all the disagreements are born of misunderstanding and misinterpretation.

Here are some sites that might help you:

What are the beliefs of Christian Orthodox about sex?

My boyfriend is Christian Orthodox and i wanted to know about what their beliefs about sex are. I am Catholic and i wouldnt know. I have been thinking for a while about having sex with him but personally im trying to keep my self abstinent until im married (but you never know, just saying). And people please dont get all mad at me, im just curious.

do not base your actions on others beliefs. base them off of your own. be open to correction, but follow your mind. they do not believe it is right to have sex outside of marriage, between man and woman. as a christian, you should believe that too. you must constantly fight the desires of your sinful flesh. we will all sin, but we can not give up the fight. we will not be perfect, but we must try to be so that we demonstrate to God true repentance. so, while you will not be condemned to hell if you a christian when you sin, as a christian, you will be constantly fighting sin. so, fight the urge to have sex outside of marriage, and trust in God, and he will provide. and if you mess up, repent and keep on fighting. if you give up or continually give in, it may indicate that you are not a christian, or that you need some serious help. God bless, and good luck following God on the path of righteousness.

What does the Bible say about the treatment of animals?

What does the Bible say about the treatment of animals? I am looking for things the Bible actually says, and not things that need someone’s interpretation.

The Word of God does not mention the treatment of animals to a great extent. However, from the creation account we get both what the Bible says about animals and how we must treat them. In Genesis 1 we find the creation of all things. It is here that we see God establishing the relationship between man and animal. In verse 28 God gives to man authority over all that was created on earth. Man is to take care of and use the earth. Man is to have the authority over all that was created. This means that man is to assume the control and protection of all that God had created. We must be careful in this role. Many are for protecting every animal no matter the cost both to mankind and to the animals.

However, it is important to notice what God does after the sin of man. Genesis 3 gives to us the details of the first sin man commits. In verse 21 God prepares for mankind a covering out of skin, for the first time an animal dies. The implications from this flow throughout the Word of God; because of man’s sin, death has entered the world. However, for our discussion on animals it is important to understand that the animals are to be used by men for our needs.

In Genesis 9 there is a change between man and animal. Up to this point, animals were not used as food. However, God now includes certain animals in the diet of mankind. God also puts fear of man into the animals. Again animals are used to fill the needs of men. However, God continues His command in verse two to watch over these animals.

Animal cruelty should not take place if men truly understand the command to be “caretakers” of the earth. We are to control the numbers of animals so disease and sickness do not kill them off; we are to use the animals for our needs; we are to control animals in a manner in which they are not harmful to humans; and finally we should protect them from over-killing and abuse. The problem lies in the fact that many do not understand this balance and tend to over-protect or under-protect animals. Animals were created for us to enjoy, so protecting a remnant for others to enjoy is also proper. Proverbs 12:10 tells us, "A righteous man cares for the needs of his animal, but the kindest acts of the wicked are cruel."
