My boyfriend has been super depressed lately because of the lack of money. He wants to join the national guard (Yes – he has resorted to that) So he can continue to go to school. What are some good bible versus to reassure him it’s okay not to have any money?

1 Samuel 2:7-8 (New International Version)

7 The LORD sends poverty and wealth;
he humbles and he exalts.

8 He raises the poor from the dust
and lifts the needy from the ash heap;
he seats them with princes
and has them inherit a throne of honor.
"For the foundations of the earth are the LORD’s;
upon them he has set the world.

How was the Protestant Reformation a political movement.?

I have a debate on Thursday agreeing with how the Protestant Reformation in Europe was mostly a political movement, rather than a religious one.

Also :
- Was it a product of great ideas, or the result of socio-economic forces of the time?
- Was Henry VII motivated by political desire or other factors?

I just need some ideas.

The Protestant Reformation in England was very much tied up with politics. It was for political reasons that Henry the Eighth felt the need to break with the Church of Rome, and it was largely because of politics that Queen Elizabeth was compelled to reaffirm the Protestant stance of England whether she really desired to or not. Protestantism … was not unwelcome. It gave the monarch independence from Rome, and a greater control over ecclesiastical affairs in the kingdom. Protestantism was also advantageous to those at the top of the social pyramid. With the dissolution of the monasteries in the mid fifteen twenties, church land fell to the Crown, and Henry shrewdly sold much of it to the nobility and gentry, which not only increased their economic and political power, but also ensured that they had a vested interest in the survival of the new religion.

How does Orthodox worship before icons differ from Catholic worship before statues?

What is the difference between and icon and a statue and how are the two viewed and related to differently in the Orthodox and Catholic traditions?

The Orthodox see icons as "windows into heaven", and prefer that the representations not be "realistic" as seen with the natural eye; they are to bring us closer to God and the things of God, not things of the earth.

To be clear, praying in front of an icon is little different from the picture you see from time to time of an old man sitting at a table with his Bible open in front of him, praying. He is not "praying to" the Bible, nor are Christians who employ images praying to the icon or statue. They are focal points of where particular instances of prayer can happen, but are not the object of such prayer.

Honor given to the image, according to official Orthodox teaching, passes to the one depicted. If you think you’d treat, say, John the Baptist with certain amount of respect if you met him personally, so we treat the icon.

The use of images stems from the practice of the early church, where it is known that images, primarily paintings and mosaics, were used. Statuary is a direction that Roman Catholicism and the Western church went, while the Eastern Roman Empire and Eastern Christians stayed with icons only, for the most part.

Can a person be currently married outside of the Catholic church and become a Catholic?

The person in question is a baptized Catholic who has fallen away from the Church and wants to return. Currently happily married to a non-Catholic, in a non-Catholic ceremony.

Yes, of course it’s possible.

I was baptized Catholic but not raised Catholic. I did not consider myself Catholic at all, and I met and married my husband in a different church. At the age of 38, I decided to become Catholic. I went through RCIA to receive the other sacraments I had missed. I asked about our marriage and was told it is considered valid, and I belong to one of the strictest dioceses in the U.S.

What christian symbols would look good with these lyrics for a tattoo?

I want a tattoo that’s on the inside of upper arms. One arms going to say ‘My chains are gone…" and on the other "I’ve been set free…" I don’t want it to just be words, so I thinking what could be added to it so it won’t be so plain. It’s a Christian song, so what kind of Christian symbols would look good with it?? Thanks

like said above, broken chains, dove, cross:

What does the bible say about brother and sister sexual relationships?

I’m a Yankee in the south and I see a lot of sibling unions in the poor uneducated areas. To each their own (I wouldn’t do my own sister), at least they are not doing same sex, animals or children, but a lot of us don’t see it as proper.

Besides babies being born with one eye, how those the bible view this as?

it is wrong if you google it you will probably find some scripture about it. but i live in the south and i dont know anybody that does that. i dont know where your living but you might want to get out of there.

How could a Christian justify the Bible saying that the earth is flat?

I’m a fairly new Christian, but I’ve never considered this before:

The Bible does not specifically claim that "the earth is flat" but it is strongly hinted in several places. It is also rarely hinted at that the earth is round, or a sphere, etc.

So if the Bible is God’s word, how could a Christian justify the Bible’s claims of our earth being flat, when God created earth?

Surely God should know that the earth is round, and so this should be said in the Bible?

The Bible states that the earth is SPHERICAL, but the word spherical doesn’t exist in the ancient Hebrew language that the Old Testament was written in, so "spherical" is described using terminology that could only have been revealed by God at that time.

I should start by pointing out that in Isaiah 40:22, the Hebrew word for circle is "chug" , and its Strong’s translation may be "circle:"

H2329
חוּג
chûg
khoog
From H2328; a circle: – circle, circuit, compassive

Likewise, the Hebrew word used in Isaiah 22:18 may mean circle, the english translators just chose to use "ball", here is Strong’s definition of the ambigous Hebrew word used:

H1754
דּוּר
dûr
dure
From H1752; a circle, ball or pile: – ball, turn, round about.

Other answerers have pointed out the poetic use of language regarding "the four corners" of the earth, etc. so I’m not going to address that, but please take a look at Job 26:10.

Here it is in 7 different Bible versions:

Contemporary English Version: Job 26:10 On the surface of the ocean, God has drawn a boundary line between light and darkness.

English Standard version: Job 26:10 He has inscribed a circle on the face of the waters at the boundary between light and darkness.

Good News Bible: Job 26:10 He divided light from darkness by a circle drawn on the face of the sea.

King James Version: Job 26:10 He hath compassed the waters with bounds, until the day and night come to an end.

MODERN King James Version: Job 26:10 He has described a circle on the surface of the waters to the boundary of light with darkness.

Literal Translation of the Holy Bible: Job 26:10 He has described a circle on the surface of the waters to the boundary of light with darkness.

New Revised Standard Version: Job 26:10 He has described a circle on the face of the waters, at the boundary between light and darkness.

Now, dear reader, I’m going to point out several obvious things that a fifth grader should be able to understand…Job is undisputed among scholars to be the oldest book of the Bible. This was written long before Greek mathematicians.

If you take a flashlight and a ball into a darkened room, spin the ball and shine the falshlight on it, can you place the flashlight or ball in such a manner that the SHADOW made by the flashlight is NOT round, or a circle? Can you substitute any other geometric shape for the ball and have this little experiment work? Can you understand that the ball is the earth, the flashlight is the sun, and the shadow is the horizon where "day and night come to an end?"

How much of the earth is water? Answer: about 2/3, so MOST OF THE TIME, the "boundary" where "day and night come to an end" is "ON THE SURFACE of the waters."

Can you see the shadow of the sun AT THE HORIZON (boundary of light and darkness) on the face of the waters from outer space, say, 25,000 miles above the earth?

How else could Job have known this without space travel EXCEPT it was divinely revealed to him?

I have been a fifth grade sunday school teacher, and used this scripture and experiment to show children that the bible says that the earth is spherical without using the word spherical, and they understand it, yet there are college educated people who deny it, or rather, WON’T see this.

None of the anti-christian flat earth websites that I have seen argue with, attempt to refute, or even present Job 26:10. Why not?

Well, gee, whatdyaknow? Science proves the Bible!! Cool, huh?

In Him,
John the Baptist

How do you become the cross country team captain?

I want to be the team captain for the cross country team in a couple years. How do I do that?

Our team votes on them…if not, be positive, be nice to the underclassmen, be an example.

Don’t bitch about workouts, you can complain a little at times, but don’t bring everyone down with you.

Be nice and friendly to people. Offer to take people home if they need it, ask them how they’re doing.

Get on the coach’s good side. Show him/her that you can lead and would be a good one.

Take charge when you can (but don’t push the seniors aside right now). Lead a group if you can and since you’re a vet, point out important things on courses to your teammates.

Be a team player, not just in it for you. Your team is most important, so put them first and always encourage them not to walk and just get better.

BiBlE…??

are there any conditions to Gods answering prayers?

and are there any verses for this?

God does not answer the prayers of the wicked. Look in Psalms and Proverbs.
