What are some good books regarding the orgins of the Bible and Christian/Catholic History?

I am looking for a novel that factually has the history of how the bible came to be. I am also looking for other novels about the history of Christianity/Catholicism before and after Christs time – any suggestions?

If it helps I’m looking for books that are Fact Based not Opinion Based that point to the Bible and the Religions being Misleading.

I do not know of any novels about "how the bible came to be" but here are some well written ones about the early history of Christianity:

Ann Rice has a couple of very nice novels about the life of Christ:
+ "Christ the Lord: Out of Egypt"
+ "Christ the Lord: The Road to Cana"

Lew Wallace wrote "Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ"

Lloyd C. Douglas wrote "The Robe"

Is it legal for a protestant and a Roman Catholic or Jew to date or marry?

Seriously, I wonder because we all know that Judaism, Christianity, and Protestanism are very similar; protestants followed the Christians. I also wonder because my Christian friend likes a protestant girl. If you can help legalize this thanks alot.

The laws might differ from country to country, but interreligious dating and marriage is legal in most countries.

Also the Catholic Church allows marriage between Catholics and non-Catholics.

The interfaith couple will have to get permission from the bishop

Anyone married in the Catholic Church has to:
+ Take a pre-marriage course
+ Promise to baptize and educate their children in the Catholic Church.

Here is a good article with suggestions on how to help an interchurch marriage succeed: http://www.americancatholic.org/Newsletters/CU/ac0690.asp

For more information, see the Catechism of the Catholic Church, sections 1633-1637: http://www.usccb.org/catechism/text/pt2sect2chpt3art7.shtml#1633

With love in Christ.

What do you think about a catholic priest who directs porn movies?

The Brazilian Catholic Priest Antônio José Duarte is the director of 3 amateur porn movies which can be found in some websites.

It´s a little strange if we think about how much his church hates sex, really?

I think he’s an example of capitalism at work.

Why are Christians so quick to claim that someone who has achieved something good is a Christian?

But when a Christian does something evil, Christians are quick to say, “Oh, he wasn’t a true Christian.” Is this more Christian “honesty”?

A true Christian is someone who follows Christ, and has accepted Him as their Lord and Savior. Too many people slap on the Christian label, but don’t really bother to really practice it. Now to answer you’re question, I have never said that. Everyone slips up time to time, some more often than others. Even born again Christians. The main difference is a true Christian will always go back to God, repent, and feel sorry for your sins. Why do Atheists always assume the Bible is full of crap, even though they haven’t read it. Judging a whole group is just dumb. I very well know that not all atheists assume so, and some may have even read the Bible.

What is the difference between Protestant and Calvinist?

Were Hugeunots protestant or calvinism. What differences do these two religions have?

the protestant (protesting the Roman Catholic church) came out of the reformation and is an umbrella of different beliefs including Calvinism which was the main "denomination" of early protestantism.

anyone who is a Christian and hold to Justification by Faith alone apposed to the RCC views of Justification by works would/could be considered a protestant.

What did the Catholic Church did to bring people back during the protestanism age please help?

What did the Catholic Church did to bring people back and stop the flood of people form leaving (this was during the protestanism age, Martin Luther, etc).
Please help .

With numerous followers leaving to join Lutheranism and other Protestant religions, the Roman Catholic Church started the Counter-Reformation.

The Counter-Reformation kept the hierarchy system of pope as the leader, then cardinals, bishops, etc. However, the Counter-Reformation marked the first time the Catholic Church addressed the complaints filed against them and actually tried to reform themselves such as halting the selling of indulgences, simony (paying/bribing to gain a church position), etc.

What is the Jewish equivalent to the Christian holy sacraments?

For example, if you are not confirmed into Christianity, you are not technically Christian. Is there a Jewish confirmation as well? Do you have to have a bar mitzvah?

In general, not really. Jews do NOT have any rituals that are regarded "as imparting divine grace."

Converts need to have a circumcision (if they’re male), and immerse in the Mikvah. They do not need a Bar Mitzvah.

A Bar Mitzvah is just a ceremony celebrating the fact that the boy is a legal adult acc Jewish Law, and therefore is now able to do Mitzvot, and is responsible for his actions.

Why do hundreds of airliners all cross the Atlantic Ocean from the US at the same time each morning?

Why don’t airliners just cross over at any time of the day? What is so special about flying out from the US during the evening, and arriving into to Europe during the early morning? It sounds like a traffic control nightmare. My understanding is that 200 flights make the trip, carrying over 80,000 people, in a period of 2 hours or so.

Av8trxx is quite right. The other issue is also wind. ATC only open the NATS (North Atlantic Track System) at limited hours. That doesn’t stop private business jet flying, and believe me they do!

One of the primary objectives in any flight in any airspace is to avoid the areas of strongest headwind while seeking the areas of strongest tailwind. Over the North Atlantic the predominant westerly winds are found at mid-latitudes, 50 to 55 degrees North. As a consequence of this the westbound flow will normally North or South of this and the eastbound will attempt to fly through it.

Naturally this doesn’t happen on a daily basis but in general this is the hypnosis which lead to the creation of an organised track system. The Eastbound system is open between 1130 – 1800UTC and eastbound 0100 – 0800UTC.

The aircraft are seperated laterally and by speed.

Why do the protestant and Catholic Church represent their countries more than their brethren?

In WW2 the churches of european countries represented their own countries and fought against countries of their own faith.
Catholic and protestant pilots dropped bombs over civilian British and German cities. Mowed each other down in the battlefield.

Doesn’t that sound screwed up that each side of professed faiths were killing each other in war just because by birth they were of different nations?
Would Jesus authorized his disciples to kill their own because of the nation of their origin?

Adulteresses, do YOU not know that the friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever, therefore, wants to be a friend of the world is constituting himself an enemy of God.
James 4:4

Because they are the adulteresses, spiritually speaking. Their flocks are not going to give them the glory they seek. Satan is their God and they are serving him and what is his.

EDIT Gwilliam America is a Democracy. Their is nothing theocratic about any of the nations on this earth. Look up theocratic and see what it means. The government of God is, in structure and function, a pure theocracy (from Gr. the‧os′, god, and kra′tos, a rule), a rule by God.
To be a pure theocracy, of course, the government could not be ordained by any human legislator, such as the man Moses, but must be ordained and established by God. The Scriptural record shows this was the case.
The governments and kingdoms of the world belong to Satan not Jehovah. They are not theocratic.

You might also want to look up 1 John 5:19. It will tell you exactly who the world and its governments belong to.

Why did the catholic priest go to goodwill?

Why did the catholic priest go to goodwill?
They heard goodwill had boys pants half off.

Stereotypes like these really bug me. All the priests I know are straight, good men who would never do anything like that. Same with nuns, their either presented as strict school teachers, sexually deprived people who will do anything to have sex or masturbate, or so innocent that they know nothing about sex or male parts. And all the nuns I know are normal people too.
