What are some good bible verses for foreign exchange students?

This coming fall, I am hosting a foreign exchange student from Germany. A German exchange student from this year has left me with a German Bible for my new student and I wanted to highlight some verses in it for her. If you know of any encouraging verses that would be great! Thanks!

The parable of the Good Samaritan is encouraging, showing that true Christians should be impartial. It's found at Luke 10:29-37.

Here is another selection:
Colossians 3:10,11 "and clothe yourselves with the new [personality], which through accurate knowledge is being made new according to the image of the One who created it, where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, foreigner, Scyth′i‧an, slave, freeman, but Christ is all things and in all."

Why are most southern states and country people Protestant?

It seems that most southern states and country people are Protestant. Why is that?

The Northeast tends to have more later European immigrants from Catholic countries like Italy, Ireland, and Poland. The families in the South and West I believe are more likely to be either from earlier waves of immigration (England, Germany) or decendants of black slaves, all of which tend to be members of the protestant religious groups.

How do you become integrated into an Orthodox Jewish community?

Do you just start attending services at an Orthodox synagogue? How do you get to know how to actively practice all of the customs, Shabbat, and holidays right? What would I do on Shabbat if I live with my parents and they don't observe it?
Are any of you baalei teshuva?

Dear Daniel
I would also suggest calling a local Orthodox Rabbi in order to sit down and ask some questions. Possibly he can arrange for some home hospitality so that you can share in the wonder and holiness of a Shabbat. I am amused by my secular friends who see Shabbat as restrictive yet they understand that the lights have to be dimmed in a movie theater in order to view the movie.
An excellent site that I love and would suggest for anyone interested in Judaism is Aish.com

What is the difference between a mormon and a Christian?

My bestfriend is a Mormon and I am Christian and I wanted to know what she believes. She said that it's pretty much the same thing as a christian, but why not just be Christian if its the same thing? There must be a difference. So can you tell me what it is?

The Book of Mormon is the biggest difference. Nominal Christians do not accept that as valid or inspired, whereas Mormons honor it above the Bible, which they feel is incorrectly translated.

Mormons hold a lot of other strange beliefs that are alien to traditional Christianity. For one thing, they believe that their members will become gods and goddesses in the hereafter, if they are married in a Mormon temple. This is called "celestial marriage", and is supposed to be for all eternity. Also in the Mormon temple you may have other people sealed to you for eternity, usually family members. Talk about keeping the family together! Then there is the "baptism for the dead" issue, which no other Christian denomination accepts as far as I know.

Many Mormon groups, or offshoots at least, still adhere to polygamy, "plural marriage", sometimes including incestuous ones. The main branch has long since repudiated this doctrine at least officially. Some "may" still practice it in secret, so I have heard.

There are many other doctrines and practices that conflict with traditional Christianity. They do use the name Jesus Christ, so they consider themselves Christians, in fact the only true Christians. They are not the only group to say that though. Mainline Christians, of course, consider them to be a cult. To be fair, Christianity was orginally considered to be a cult, by the Romans.

LDS believe that God was once a man, and that he sired numoerous spirit children in a pre-mortal existence. Many of these, perhaps most eventually became humans when God created the physical earth. So we are all brothers and sisters. God later took on a physical body and mated with the virgin Mary, one of his spirit daughters, to father Jesus, one of his spirit sons, which is a very weird sounding doctrine, to most anyway.

What does the phone icon next to the battery icon on the iPhone mean?

There is an icon on the iPhone next to the battery icon that I've never seen before and it looks like a phone over a keyboard. Any clue what it is?

TTY – Shows that iPhone is set to work with a
TTY machine.

Using iPhone with a Teletype (TTY) Machine
In some regions, Teletype (TTY) machines are used by deaf or hearing-impaired people
to communicate by typing and reading text. If you have the iPhone TTY Adapter cable,
available at www.apple.com/store, you can use iPhone with a TTY machine.
Connect iPhone to a TTY machine: Choose Phone, then turn TTY on. Then connect
iPhone to your TTY machine using the iPhone TTY Adapter.
For information about using a TTY machine, see the documentation that came with
the machine.
For more information about other accessibility features of iPhone, go to
www.apple.com/accessibility.

Why did the Bible writers fail so dismally in identifying who had sex with Mary leading to the birth of Jesus?

Nobody really believes that other nonsense that somebody wrote in the Bible, do they?

Christians deny that anybody ever had sex. That's why they are so uptight!

How to make the whole world christian and thus save them from themselves?

The US has an obligation, as a christian nation to convert and preach the true word of god to save their souls. What country is next on the GOP agenda for crusading? I think we should go after one of those countries that legalized "homesexual" marriage.

The sad thing is, some Neocons are probably reading your question, not realizing that you're being sarcastic and saying "Hell Yeah! That's the way we do it in America!"

What are some good bible stories about overcoming a big challenge for little kids?

I need a cute little (and simple since its for little kids) story about overcoming a challenge, that comes from the bible.
Any suggestions!?

Thanks!!

The one I just used in Kid's Church is the story of David & Goliath. You know the story – David had grown so accustomed to relying on God to deliver him from his enemies, that he didn't hesitate to volunteer to kill Goliath, the Phillistine warrior, because he knew it would be God's battle. Nobody else, including King Saul, would face him in battle, and Saul tried unsuccessfully to change David's mind. Eventually, as you know, David succeeded, and the Israelite army pummeled the Phillistine army.

I would, however, do some research before telling about this incident. Too many times, in my opinion. this story is told in the manner of a fairy tale, not a true account. It is entirely possible that a rock thrown at someone from a sling could kill him instantly, considering the velocity projectiles are able to reach from modern day slings (yes, people still build and use them – they're called "nerds"). The miracle, in my opinion, was that David was not afraid to do this, especially considering that he was probably full aware that he would only have one chance to kill Goliath. If he missed, he'd be in serious trouble.

There you go: Little guy vs. BIG challenge. Little guy wins because he gave the battle to God.
