We have found out it is in mostly German, but contains Latin as well. We also think that it has some French in it, but aren't positive about this. The bible has a publishing date of + or minus 1660. We can't find out what the approximate cost of this bible is, and we do know it is only approximate since we don't have the exact name of this bible. Please let us know.
You will need to do some more detailed research or take it to a rare book expert.
It's value will probably vary widely according to condition and rarity of that particular edition, as well as current demand for it from collectors.

also what were the basic religious beliefs taught by the protestant churches?
One person replied: "Mostly because their entire countries were forced to convert."
Now for the full story.
In western europe there had been literally hundreds and hundreds of years of repression and totalitarian reign by regemes kowtowing to the authority of the Catholic Church. There had been literally 500 years of the Inquisition and other malicious practices of the Catholic Church. Hundreds of thousands of "heretics" were executed and even entire towns were wiped out. (And this does not even include the Crucades, some of which wiped out entire CHRISTIAN cities in eastern Europe at the instigation of the reigning pope because they balked at the pope's authority).
Let us also indeed look at England. Just one minor example: the first person there who translated the Bible from Latin into English was imprisoned for the act.
Sure there were a few "martyrs for the faith" but the very overwhelming vast majority were just quite happy to get out from under the repression and horrific policies and deliberate pain and suffering inflicted upon the poeple by the Catholic Church and those operating under their imprimator.
In some later centuries it was in part the 300 years of witch-hunting, the burning and incarceration of heretics, and other practices which R.H. Robbins called "the shocking nightmare, the foulest crime and deepest shame of western civilization," that ensured the european abandonment of the belief in magic. And the authority of the Catholic Church. In part, the Church created the elaborate concept of devil worship and then used the persecution of it to wipe out dissent, subordinate the individual to authoritarian control, and openly denigrate women. All through the ages the Catholic Church and its adherents spoke of women as barely human. Even Thomas Acquinas stated that woman was a "mistake of creation."
And witch-hunting was only a part of the story. Please read some history which is rampent with the totalitarian barbarisms off the Catholic Church.
Both Protestants and Catholics are very good at rewriting history to suit their purposes, but in main it was just a ripe time for countries and the people in those countries to finally wrest authority (expecially temporal authority) away from a weakening Catholic Church.
To give a modern day equivalent to what happened. Look at what happened in most of the countries in Eastern Europe during the fall of the Soviate dominance of that area of the world. No one today would even pretend to contend that all these poor people were "FORCED TO RENOUNCE COMMUNISM." The situation during the Reformation (and counter Reformation) was drawn out over a much greater time but the motivation of the people was similar.

From my understanding of the Law, there were penalties for injuring or harming the life of an unborn. For instance if two men were fighting and a pregnant woman was injured so as to cause the death of the unborn child. The life of the mother not being in danger because of the pregnancy, what is the stand of the Orthodox on this issue?
Thank you and peace!
Abortion is a tricky issue. It is true that if the mothers life is in danger an abortion is called for. However, “danger” is interpreted different ways and there is not hard fast way to define it. Jewish law is very complex on this issue.
You cannot have an abortion for “trivial” reasons like using abortion as birth control or because you cannot afford the child. The child is not a legal person until it is born but it is a potential person so it does have a limitied number of rights. Depending on your personal views, it would be right to say abortion is allowed and also that abortion is frowned upon.
I know of a story where the mother had cancer and refused to get treatment because she was pregnant. The doctors told her she should abort the fetuses (she had twins) so she could get radiation treatment. She refused because she wanted the babies. Her husband died in a car accident a short time after she became pregnant. By postponing her cancer treatment she was signing her own death warrant in a effect. She had the babies and died 3-4 years later.
A debate insued in the community about whether or not she was right in not having an abortion. There was not hard and fast answer.
It is an issue we grapple with just like the world at large.
I have a brother who is autistic and my sister once asked my parents if they could have known he was autistic if they would have aborted him and both said “Absolutely not”.

The fiance is Catholic and the groom is Evangelical Christan. What traditions do you do at the wedding reception so no one (mostly parents and relatives) do not get offended. What type of special traditions do you do? please be specific!
Thank you.
In both cases it will vary a lot. There's a lot of "folk" Catholicism, so the traditions have a lot of local varieties. My family does not really have any at the reception (Polish background). Also, what would or wouldn't offend people will vary. A lot of Christian denominations have the bride and groom walk in with their parents, instead of each other (to use a wedding example instead of a reception one), and while some parents might not mind doing it the RC way (where the parents walk in without their children, before the bride and groom walk in together), some parents might be offended.

I can not sleep I am so worried about this country! I believe that John McCain and especially the VP Sarah Palin would have been fundamental in restoring the Christian values that this country stands for.
How on earth are we going to get through this? All these economic crisis’s and troubles could only have been solved by God! No one else.
What is now going to become of us? Why did America turn away from God?
All I can say is God provides us with resources and we twist them to conspire against Him. I feel your pain that's why I'm wide awake. I think Obama being president is cause for grave concern. On one hand I'm thinking that God knows what He's doing, He will do what's best for this country but on the other hand, thinking back to previous encounters, God has put powerful dictators in charge to teach a country a lesson.

I have a 06 accord that I need to change the rotors on. I’m a hard braker and I usually find that the rotors I have will warp easily. I was told to upgrade to either a cross drilled or a slotted rotors to help prevent this. Any advice?
It is how they are done. Cross drilled is done by drilling through the face of the rotor. Slotted is done by milling a curved slot on the face of the rotor (I think). Something I heard is, that no matter who you buy them from or how they are done, eventually they will develop cracks due to the stress points from the drilled holes or slotting. Try to get a good warranty if you buy these. Good luck.

In the back in has maps of the time of Christ. Reading in the book I find that I can be saved by praying to God and asking to be saved. I find the bible very useful and interesting. I was raised Catholic, so I know that Protestants cannot take communion in a Catholic church because they don’t believe in the transubstantiation. But would it be wrong for a Catholic to take communion in a Protestant church?
Absolutely wrong!! That would be blasphemy. It would be submitting to the doctrines of men instead of Christ's teaching.
This may help:
St. Paul taught that we must discern the Body and the Blood of the Lord to receive the Eucharist. We must be prepared by faith, understanding and an examination of our conscience. This is the most holy moment for any Christian and we must be sure of our preparation as every aspect of our demeanor must be prepared to reflect the respect, solemnity and joy that are received at the reception of our Lord and Saviors real body and blood. This is the most extraordinary moment that anyone can experience on this earth. We are to be reminded of the words of the Centurion, “Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter my roof, but only say the word and my soul will be healed.”
Is it possible to have open communion with those who do not share in our belief in the real corporeal presence of Christ in the Eucharist? Could we, in fact be harming those who we allow at the Lord's Table who do not discern the Lord's Body and Blood? Would we be contributing to them bringing condemnation on themselves by sharing the Eucharist with them? Certainly, I cannot receive or participate in Protestant communion where it is only symbolic as it makes a mockery of the Sacrament established by Christ. Under what circumstance do I believe that communion is possible in good conscience? When we share the same respect and reverence in knowing, that it is the Body and Blood of the living Christ that we adore and worship before we receive, then we can share communion. What do I mean by respect and reverence?
We must be in a state of grace, one conscience of grave sin must not receive communion before the Sacrament of Reconciliation. As part of the preparation we must also fast prior to the receiving of the Eucharist. There must also be a union of doctrine and authority as the Sacrament is one of oneness with Christ and His Church, St. Paul taught that we are to be one Body and partake of one bread. This oneness includes the members of the Orthodox communities and certain Catholic communities not in full communion of authority but in agreement on doctrine. The Catholic and the Orthodox Church are to be seen as the two ”lungs” of the one Church of Christ.
Unfortunately, it is impossible for communion with those ecclesiastical communities coming out of the Reformation because they lack a valid priesthood and a means to confect the Eucharist as well as the proper understanding of the sacrament.
In Christ

I am interested in the Orthodox branch of the Christian church and I understand that Orthodox believers pray through Mary and the saints as opposed to Jesus and God directly. Is there any way to defend this practice in the Old or New Testament? Even if there is not, what I am most curious about is whether or not it is specifically condemned.
Thanks so much!
Catholic and orthodox are both false. Here's why:
The first Christians in ACTS in the Bible were not catholic or orthodox. They were fundamentalist in doctrine. Anyone can read Acts and see for themselves
Catholicism and orthodox didn't exist for over 300 years later.
Catholicism and orthodox both teach a false gospel of works ("sacraments") that leads to eternal hell (Galatians 1:6-9). Catholicism and orthodox are not Christian
Jesus wants to have a personal relationship with you. Catholicism and orthodox cannot give you this.
Catholicism/orthodox = faith + works = no salvation and eternal torment in hell
Christian = faith alone in Jesus for salvation, without our own works added = salvation and eternity in heaven with Jesus!
Only faith alone in Jesus saves! Salvation is a FREE GIFT that happens in a split second when you believe in Jesus! It is impossible to lose or "leave" salvation.
The truth about Jesus is that the only way to be saved and to get into heaven and avoid being sent to eternal hell, is by believing in faith alone that Jesus, who is God, died for our sins on the cross as FULL PAYMENT for all our sins, and then Jesus rose from the dead (1 Corinthians 15:1-4). Believe this and you will be in heaven, no matter what!
Please pray now: "Jesus, please forgive me of my sins. I believe that You died on the cross for my sins and You rose from the dead. Thank You for eternal life!" You will be in heaven with Him forever when you die.
