What kind of Orthodox are the Lebanese Christians ?

Eastern Orthodox like the Greeks or Oriental like the Egyptians? Just curious. And if you can also tell me how is Christmas generally celbrated there, any traditions? Thanks.

Ummm, they are Maronite French so Eastern Catholic. The Maronite Church claims never to have been separated from Rome, and has no counterpart Orthodox Church out of communion with the Pope but does have more resemblances to Oriental churches.

I'm not Lebanese but dated a girl who was briefly and I studied the Middle East in college but not too familar with Christmas traditions there. Sorry.

ps: that's a nice litte avatar you got there.

Why some authors in the Catholic tradition remain unafraid of contact with other religions and world views?

Explain why some authors in the Catholic tradition remain unafraid of contact with other religions and world views. Think about basic principles, such as ‘unity’, from Pieper, Dulles, De Lubac, and Newman.

Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. (Matthew 29:19-20)

The mission of the Church is to proclaim and establish the Kingdom of God begun by Jesus Christ among all peoples.

This mission cannot be accomplished by not talking to or being afraid of the people of the world.

It is also a bit hard to not contact the other people of the world when 1 in 6 people in the world are Catholic.

For more information, see the Catechism of the Catholic Church, sections 767-769: http://www.usccb.org/catechism/text/pt1sect2chpt3art9.shtml#767

With love in Christ.

What would you reccomend for some good Christian fiction authors?

I've been reading a lot of books lately by Kathy Herman, Karen Ball, Karen Kingsbury, Lorena McCourtney, and I've read a lot of books by Melody Carlson. I'm really into reading Christian fiction. What are some good Christian fiction authors/books for reading?

Here lately I've been sort of getting into like mystery/suspense (but nothing really scary). Sometimes I like to read stuff about love but mostly just mystery/suspense.

How to remove the grey box around a desktop icon?

I accidentally clicked something cant remember what, but now all the icons on my desktop appear with grey boxes around the text underneath the icon. It’s kind of annoying not the end of the world but could someone help? Thanks in advance.

Ps. It’s not the case where you just click and it goes away.

If you right click anywhere near the middle of the screen and left click on “properties” and then the “apperrance” tab. You can mess with the fonts and on the “desktop” tab you can mess with the wallpaper. The fonts must be clear or close to the same color!

What are the differences between Catholics and Orthodox Christians?

and where can i find orthodox christians?
i mean in which countries most?

im atheist so far

The East-West Schism, or the Great Schism, divided medieval Christendom into Eastern (Greek) and Western (Latin) branches, which later became known as the Eastern Orthodox Church and the Roman Catholic Church, respectively. Relations between East and West had long been embittered by political and ecclesiastical differences and theological disputes. Pope Leo IX and Patriarch of Constantinople Michael Cerularius, heightened the conflict by suppressing Greek and Latin in their respective domains. In 1054, Roman legates traveled to Cerularius to deny him the title Ecumenical Patriarch and to insist that he recognize the Roman Catholic claim to be the head and mother of the churches. Cerularius refused. The leader of the Latin contingent excommunicated Cerularius, while he excommunicated the legates.

The Western legate’s acts are of doubtful validity because Leo had died, while Cerularius’s excommunication applied only to the legates personally. Still, the Church split along doctrinal, theological, linguistic, political, and geographical lines, and the fundamental breach has never been healed. Western cruelty during the Crusades, the capture and sack of Constantinople in 1204, and the imposition of Latin Patriarchs made reconciliation more difficult. This included the taking of many precious religious artifacts and the destruction of the Library of Constantinople. On paper, the two churches actually reunited in 1274 (by the Second Council of Lyon) and in 1439 (by the Council of Florence), but in each case the councils were repudiated by the Orthodox as a whole, on the grounds that the hierarchs had overstepped their authority in consenting to reunification. In 1484, 31 years after the Fall of Constantinople to the Ottoman Turks, a Synod of Constantinople repudiated the Union of Florence, marking the final breach. In 1965, the Pope and the Ecumenical Patriarch nullified the anathemas of 1054. Further attempts to reconcile the two bodies are ongoing.

A schism is a break in the Church’s authority structure and communion, different from a heresy, which means false doctrine. Church authorities have long recognized that the sacraments function even if their minister is in schism. There have been many other schisms, from the 2nd century until today, but none as significant as the one between East and West.

Is there a Catholic volunteer program where I can help the poor in the third world?

I am 22, have some college but am not finished with it and not currently enrolled. I would like to volunteer for a Catholic organization which is active for the poor in third-world countries and regions. All I could find was Catholic Relief Services but you have to be 25+ and have your degree already. Does anyone know of an organization like this? Thanks guys.
I speak English, nearly fluent Spanish, some Dutch and very little Japanese

The Notre Dame Mission accepts volunteers. See the first link below. They do have some openings for third-world country assignments.
The Jesuit Volunteers promise "third-world" like conditions. See the second link for the application process.

There are other opportunities too, mostly in Brazil. If you work for the United Nations in Brazil you will work with a Catholic organization. All UN Aid in Brazil is distributed through the Catholic Church. You'd need to apply directly to the UN. (See the third link for how to volunteer.)

What is the correct Christian way to pray?

What is the correct way for a Christian to pray, i mean like before they go to bed and at a dinner table. What are some things to say. How should i say it?

Is there a correct way to talk to your father?
Is there a correct way to talk to a friend?
How you talk to these will depend on the situation and other circumstances at the time. It is the same with prayer.

God is your Father. Speak to Him as such. Not with a list of rules or a formula, just dad! That’s what Jesus said. I was at the local swimming pool last year and heard a small Jewish child call “Adda” to his daddy. It made me think of that verse when Jesus said we can talk to the Father like that.
